Today we're gonna make a chain link making machine But a very little one Welcome to "Levsha" channel Recently I've had an idea to make a chain link But as I said before very small one Don't ask me why I've decided to do that May be I'll tell you later Besides let's examine the principle of how it works First of all, we should make a body with the spiral groove Simply defined, this is just a screw thread but with a bigger pitсhes As a guideline I've taken the larger machine draft And scaled it down in 1:10 proportion Sometimes graver was just loosing the track because I've mistakenly chosen the wrong one I remade it about 3 times After the groove shaping, we should make a hole in a center As a result, I absolutely disliked spiral inner surface Seems like it would not be working the right way After drilling the graver left side with the same angle as in the spiral It all went right In this time the depth is enough to merge with the center hole According to rules, the detail should be cut near the last spiral turn But I've decided to cut it a bit differently in order to save an additional stiffening bar The second one was much better So we can continue to work *Advertisement* (until 3:12) The next thing we should make is the basement for the body bracing It will be consist of 2 parts Material I use is the alluminium This is an ideal material for such kind of work I want to thank again my subscriber who sent me such a good vise After that we'll make 2 holes for the screws I've temporarily gathered all the parts that way The gap is small, but it's enough So we can continue Then we make a shaft, which will be rotating the actuating mechanism The making process is not simple and requires a lot of operations From the other side we'll make a hole and a screw thread Here the handle will be attached After that we should make a square drive from the other side for the steady fixation I'll use my DIY mechanical electrical axis We can divide 360° by 4 and get the required angle Enter this number in the controller And every time we press the button we get needed value From the other side we should make a groove in the shaft for the plate bracing My machine is a small, but modular, so we can quickly gather our mechanism Next we make a hole and the screw thread for the same plate bracing All the details are very small, so we should be extremely careful with it And the making process spends a lot of time I like the result and I'll use this technique in further projects The shaft body is made of 10 mm brass bar Change the center and make a shaft hole We should drill the way that will make shaft center be in a center of body with groove Also we make 4 holes for bracing and make a screw thread We'll use 1.6 mm screws This node is done, now we can make a plate I've decided to use a laser because we're working with a temperate steel But in most cases it led to the overheating Therefore we should cut with an intervals Let the metal cool The hole will be made with the tile drill The plate is not finally cut but it's easy to get rid of everything unnecessary By the way, this part gave me an idea for a new project I'll tell you a bit later Try on this plate with shaft And if everything is fine we can make other detail It should has a free stroke to work correctly We'll make a wooden handle From walnut tree We'll use a metal-working lathe as wood-working tinted oil And give it a time to absorb Yesterday my father again gave me some stuff from the metal warehouse Including such a nice brass plate We'll make a handle from it Imitating an old style Next we grind it, but not polish Handle and the shaft body are made of brass so we'll blue it From the rest of the anodized aluminum, that I was using in the previous videos as well, we'll make the foundation plate for the whole machine And also we'll make the folding wire carrier Screw threads in aluminum are not good for the constant use Next, the most pleasant – assembling We'll use an anaerobic glue to fixate the handle And that's what we've got We should bend the operating plate, like in the bigger machines It makes all the spiral coils bend a bit further that gives you a precise chain link But the plate is made of tempered metal So it's problematic to bend it and then temper again Just leave it as it is The base is made of the same wood and also soaked with tinted oil Let's it absorb and get rid of excesses Now the texture is well visible And we've got a nice precious color From the other side we press the screw to fixate the folding carrier Now we can attach the plate to the base Firstly I was thinking to use a 0.5 mm wire Then it turned out it’s not that simple We make a hole and the screw thread in the carrier Now we should attach it to the folding plate It allows you to fold the machine and makes it more compact The last detail is made of graphite-reinforced polylactam It's slippery but have a nice lifetime This detail will lead the wire We make 2 holes with 2 mm diameter Now we're gonna test our machine with such a wire It's a bit bold for this machine So the rotating was harder than expected The maximum wire diameter is 0.4 mm The only wire with such diameter is the copper one It works much better As I said before, we should bend the plate a bit But I've made it after the video recording That's the result, the machine is small, but it works Of course the copper chain link is not as strong as the steel one may be But at least you can use it for decorative purposes To make a chain link with such a little meshes is not so simple!
